SUSTAINABILITY + COMPLIANCE

Our Commitment To Sustainability

Alternative is a brand rooted in sustainable and eco-friendly practices. Through innovation and partnership, we aim to create products responsibly.  We hold ourselves accountable and seek to provide benefit to all those involved in our products’ life cycles, from our end-product consumers all the way through to our vendors and manufacturing partners.

Social Responsibility

As a company that operates on a global scale, we respect and value the rights of workers in all countries and believe in the right to fair and safe workplace conditions.  Our Vendor Guidelines and Principles are in accordance with the Fair Labor Association (FLA) Workplace Code of Conduct.  Additionally, many of the factories we work with are certified by Worldwide Responsible Accredited Production (WRAP), an independent, non-profit team of global social compliance experts dedicated to promoting safe, lawful and ethical manufacturing around the world.  Visit wrapcompliance.org to learn more about WRAP’s certification principles and factory audits.

Fabric First

Fabric is the foundation of everything we do. We are on a constant quest to find the best ways to achieve the signature softness we're known for- and do it responsibly. From working with the finest quality organic and sustainable materials to development of custom fabrics from the yarn up, we strive for innovation to improve our fabrics in all points of the process, from thread to finish.

Wash and Dye Methods

We utilize non-toxic, low-impact dyes on all Eco-fabrics.  The dyes we use do not contain heavy metals or toxic substances and have a high fixation or absorption rate, which means using less dye to generate our colors.  The dye houses we work with perform frequent inspections in order to check all equipment and sample water and filtration residue for any toxins.

The woven styles in our line are finished with our G2 Eco-Wash, which finishes garments with 60% less water and no chemicals.
